As you said error 80070017 means Data error: Cyclic Redundancy Check. Most of the time it really means that the video/audio that is trying to be played to corrupt.

I am running Windows XP with Windows Media Player version 8.0 and when I try to play a wav file it doesn't anything for a while and then I get the error 80070017 and says no more help is available. After looking at all of the other problems posted it appears that Media Player has a bug. Help!

I've tried opening them and resaving them, and even tried using a backup to the HD. Nothing works. "Cannot read from a file "F:\P2270006.JPG". Data error (cyclic redundancy check). [80070017]" is the typical message I get. What's a cyclic redundancy check? There's nothing in Windows Help about this.
